Windows are among the first details the eye catches on a facade. When the window surround, sill and cornerstones are planned together, the facade looks more coherent and finished. Here is a short overview of the three product groups and what to consider when choosing them.
Window surrounds
A window surround frames the window opening on the exterior and gives the window a clear outline. The Konex window surround range comprises 30 models, from plain flat profiles to stepped classical forms. Profile widths range from 50 mm to 180 mm, and every model is produced in a length of 3000 mm.
- On plain facades, slim flat profiles highlight the window without overstating it.
- On classical facades, wider stepped profiles create a stronger shadow line.
Window sills
The sill finishes the lower edge of the window on the exterior and directs rainwater away from the facade. Konex window sills are produced in total widths of 300, 400, 500 and 600 mm with slab thicknesses of 25 and 35 mm. Five lengths – 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 mm – suit different window widths.
Considering the wall thickness and the position of the window frame within the wall together makes it easier to decide from the start how far the sill should project from the facade.
Cornerstones
Cornerstones create the look of stone quoins at building corners and beside windows, giving the facade a strong, classical character. Konex cornerstones are available as 1000 mm high corner modules and as single blocks. Because a corner module covers both faces at once, the corner line is finished in one piece with a clean appearance.
Thinking of all three together
When the surround, sill and cornerstones share a similar profile language, the window reads as a single design. Pairing a plain surround with a slim sill, or a stepped surround with a thicker sill and cornerstones, gives a harmonious result.
